JAZZ NIGHT with Boma Bango (Congolese Rumba)

Jazz Night ventures to central Africa, by way of Cuba. Boma Bango - featuring local musicians Daniel Coolik, Glenn Fields, Trey Boudreaux, Danny Devillier and Bill Smith - explores the rich Cuban-African musical interchange. The band mined its material and inspiration from a multitude of musical acts (incluing Franco Luambo, Docteur Nico and Tabu Ley Rochereau) that cross pollinated Spanish language and latin rhythm with French African and Calypso melodies, emerging in orchestral Cuban sounds in the early 1920s and traveling back to Africa - and specifically The Congo - post WWII.
